This walk, which starts on the East cliff and ends in the town centre, is designed primarily for those resident on the East Cliff to give them an idea of the area and its history before we descend to cover the town centre. Arrangements can be made for the walk to start from any East Cliff hotel.
You will hear about famous people linked to the East Cliff including Montgomery and Eisenhower, JRR Tolkien, Tony Hancock and Lillie Langtry.
As we walk along, Bournemouth's history from its days as a popular area for smuggling through its time as an invalid resort to its present status as Britain's leading holiday resort will be discussed. Its modern day attractions and facilities will be pointed out en route and a visit will be made to the Shelley Tomb in St.Peter's Churchyard, where the town's links with the family of the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley will be explained.
